Rotting Christ and Borknagar in Los Angeles, CA
The Devastation on the Nation tour finally kicked off again after being postponed for two years. The tour featured Rotting Christ, Borknagar, Abigail Williams, Ghost Bath, Vale of Pnath and Stormruler. The final stop on the tour was the 1720 warehouse in Los Angeles, California.
Borknagar is a Norwegian metal supergroup. The singer/bassist of the band is ICS Vortex who is most famously known as a member of Norwegian black metal band, Dimmu Borgir. Their latest album was released in 2019 titled True North which easily became a fan-favorite amongst fans. Many fans were ecstatic to finally see Borknagar. The lights went out and the fans cheered as Borknagar made their way to the stage. The first song was The Fire That Burns. Vortex's clean vocals fit beautifully with the band. Borknagar only had limited time to play so they played the big hits which included Voices, Frostrite, Up North and Colossus. The audience moshed the whole performance and they loved every minute of Borknagar's performance. They ended their show with Winter Thrice. They thanked the audience, bowed and left the stage for the headlining band of the tour.
Rotting Christ is a legendary black metal band from Greece. Since forming in 1987, they have released thirteen albums with the latest being Heretics which was released in 2019. Brothers Sakis (guitars/vocals) and Themis (drums) Solis are the band's two founding and main members. It had been five years since Rotting Christ last came to the USA for fans were more than ready for their return. The lights went out once again and the packed venue roared with excitement as the intro segment to 666 played over the speaker. The members of Rotting Christ made their way to the stage and played 666 which is easily one of their best songs. The crowd reacted by moshing, shoving and even crowd surfers were seen throughout the performance. Rotting Christ is a loud band and it was only further proven as they played many of their hits including Elthe Kyrie, Dies Irae and In Yumen-Xibalba. Sakis spoke to the audience for a bit to talk about how it felt great to play live again and how Los Angeles always makes them feel welcome. To end the show, Rotting Christ played Grandis Spiritus Diavolos. Rotting Christ finished their show and left the stage. The fans stayed put and cheered. After a small break, Rotting Christ came back out for some encores. The first encore was The Sign of Evil Existence. To end the show, Rotting Christ played their most popular song, Non Serviam. During the performance, members from the other bands came out on stage and joined in rocking out and singing along. Rotting Christ finished the song, thanked the audience for coming out and left the stage for the last time. This tour always brings some of the best metal bands around and luckily it's not going away anytime soon.
