Phantasm IV: Oblivion (1998)

I decided to continue the series tonight, and watch Phantasm IV: Oblivion. I really like how it starts with Reggie and Mike having flashbacks, it's a good way to remind viewers what happened in the previous film. This movie really solidified my love of Reggie. He's my favorite character by far, and I love this! He's so cool and has so many great one liners. I also like how we get a lot more of Mike and The Tall Man's backstory into his past lives and how long this has really been going on. One thing this movie really does well is uses sound effects and music to make thing more creepy and ominous. The first three movies really only got me during jump scares, but this one, definitely at least in part to all the sounds, creeped me out a bit. Especially that scene when Mike cut down The Tall Man out of the tree. It also shows a lot of scenes that happened in the past, which I thought was really cool. That means that they had to have had the whole story planned out before they even started filming, because we see the actor who plays Mike grow up throughout the films. There was a lot of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff in this one, if you stop paying attention for a second, you might get lost. But, this movie is so suspenseful, you don't want to stop watching. The orb titties was a disturbing and nice touch. Poor Reggie, he really needs to become celibate. I think the ending was great. It felt like it was enough to be the end of the series if they never picked it up, but at the same time, it's left open ended enough for another installment, which they did, and it came out like twenty years later. I enjoyed this movie a lot! Definitely a great film, and I'm looking forward to watching the last movie. ~Gangis
