INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978)

A young Leonard Nimoy, Donald Sutherland, and Jeff Goldblum. If that isn’t a hodgepodge of randomness I don’t know what is. Somehow the stars aligned and all starred in one of the greatest 70s paranoia flicks INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. This itself was a remake...and we have had many versions since but this is considered one of the better, if not best, version out there. Sutherland and others suspect something sinister is going on and they couldn’t be more right. It seems along the way they find that some sort of alien pods are replacing people…and it’s impossible to tell the difference. The only discernable difference is the lack of emotion that these pod people display, or don’t display, and once people go to sleep is when these transformations seem to happen. We get really creepy scenes of these pod transformations taking place and with the use of 70s sinister music, practical effects, and overall spooky vibe, we really get a tension filled movie that will have you looking at your neighbor and wondering what-if. Check this one out for a vibe and tone rarely seen in horror nowadays...that of subtlety, despair, paranoia, and claustrophobia all wrapped up in a walls-closing-in narrative.
