Fleshgod Apocalypse - Los Angeles, CA - 3/16/23
Italian symphonic death metal maestros Fleshgod Apocalypse finally made their way back to the USA since last being here in 2019. They are still in support of their fifth album Veleno (Italian for Poison) which came out in 2019. This stacked lineup also featured Thulcandra, Wolfheart and Obscura. Even on a Thursday, metalheads from the area came together to witness this epic lineup. The show came close to selling out, so you know things were about to get heated.
Fleshgod Apocalypse came out and started their show with Fury, the first song from the newest album. Their music live is powerful, and it hits you with a force like if you were just hit by a barrier made of sound. A great start to what will inevitably be a great show. The next two songs performed were Healing Through War followed by Sugar. Right away, you could see how the band display themselves for their live performances. You could say they look like the ghosts of classical composers. One of the early songs played was No and it's featured on their 2020 EP of the same name. The is extra awesome because it has a tribute to the Britney Spears song Hit Me Baby One More Time when operatic vocalist Veronica Bordacchini sings one of the final verses almost word for word. The next song was Monnalisa from the latest album and once again, Bordacchini got a chance to show off her beautiful operatic voice that mixed in perfectly with the growls of vocalist Francesco Paoli. Other FA classics included The Violation, The Fool and The Egoism. Paoli took a quick break to remind the audience that tonight was the final stop on the tour and that this next song was the last time that the audience would get a chance to go wild. The final song is the band's most well-known song, The Forsaking. A beautiful blend of death metal, operatic vocals and piano. All the members came center stage and bowed to their fans showing their appreciation for coming out and showing support. Hopefully a new album is in the works as well as another USA tour.
