Blackbriar - The Cause of Shipwreck
Netherlands based alternative metal/gothic rock band Blackbriar released their new album "The Cause Of Shipwreck" yesterday. I've been looking forward to this album for awhile, and it definitely did not disappoint. It's so good! Right from the beginning, we start off with a very strong and powerful song, "Confess".
The third track, "Through The Crevice" starts off with a heavy riff played by some stringed instruments before the other instruments kick in. It also has a beautifully played piano line. The vocals in this song are at a slightly deeper pitch than some of their other songs. We also get a badass guitar solo that sounds like it came right out of an 80's hair metal hit. This song just had a lot of intricate details to it that made it a wonderfully complex song.
"The Seance" was my favorite single that came off this album, and is still one of the best and most powerful tracks on the album. It's just has so much emotion and fantastic analogies. It's one of the most dark cleverly written songs I've heard in a long time. I think it's my favorite one on the album.
"You're Haunting Me" starts off with a music box and eerie humming, which is a really cool touch. It also is slightly staticky, which adds another level to that creepy vibe. It's an absolutely gorgeous ballad. The vocals throughout the album are incredibly strong and well done, but she absolutely shines on this song.
Towards the end of the album we get a few heavier hitting songs, some fantastic dark ominous badassery, and some more amazing vocals. Every part of this album and their sound is incredible, but I just adore the vocals. Her voice is very unique, and simultaneously delicate and strong. It's fantastic. I love their overall very gothic sound. The ending of the album has even more emotion to it than the rest of the album combined, which is absolutely mindblowing. This album is so well done. I very highly suggest checking it out, and I really look forward to anything this band does in the future. They're amazing. ~Gangis
